Brazilian Footballer slapped with 8-match ban after stripping naked for goal celebration
Brazilian footballer Emerson Carioca sparked a riot after stripping down to his birthday suit after scoring a dramatic winner against Marina in the Championship.
Brazilian footballer Emerson Carioca has been hit with an eight-match ban after stripping down naked for a goal celebration.
The incident, that happened in December, saw the 25-year-old score a dramatic winner to send Sampaio Correa into the Carioca Championship.
And while celebrating his goal, the winger ripped his top off and lowered his shorts.
Towards the crowd, Carioca waved his genitals while exposing his buttocks – sparking a riot and an on-field brawl.
The player did not stay at Sampaio Correa much longer after the incident, leaving the following month.
However, he has not escaped punishment and has been slapped with an eight-match ban.
The league’s disciplinary panel stated he was involved in ‘any conduct contrary to sports discipline or ethics’ as well as ‘participating in a brawl, conflict or turmoil, during a match’.
Portuguesa, Carioca’s new club, have stated that they will appeal the decision, according to Globo Esporte.
Speaking after the incident, the player begged forgiveness from his own fans after admitting he was in the wrong.
He said: “I want to ask forgiveness from Sampaio Correa’s fans, my team-mates, and also Marica’s fans, players and everyone who loves football.
“I deeply regret what happened. I was strongly provoked in both matches.
“The people in the stands were swearing at me and giving me a lot of bull****, and I crossed the line. It was not premeditated.”
